- What are the special duties of a medical transcriptionist?
- There are many roles and responsibilities related to the transcriptionist. Although it is a simple job similar to that of a BPO but still these jobs have many responsibilities.
- A transcriptionist listens to the medical dictation of the doctor and writes it down so as to prepare a medical transcript. The medical transcript can be further used as in for many purposes as insurance, medical assistance, and treatment summaries. The role of a medical transcriptionist is a very unique and different as without their assistance it would be very difficult to outsource the work of a doctor or prepare the reports.
- Though the session between the doctor and the patient is quite confidential and report needs to be prepared on paper but since the paper work is not accurate and very appropriate so an accurate copy of the report should be made by listening to the conversation between the doctor and the patient. The diagnosis is hence a delicate process and so as writing the text of the conversation.
- It may be process where sometimes the things are complex and written in a form which may be a problem to understand. Therefore the responsibility of a transcriptionist is too high as this is again a very delicate process of writing down the content of the digital recording.
- There are many roles played by the medical trancriptionist as to make the transcript more detailed and clear. The roles of the transcriptionist are as under.
- They provide correct usage of grammar and English in the transcription so that the text in the transcript form becomes clear and easy to use. The proper language depicts the better understanding and good quality of the text.
- The transcript should be managed carefully and with prior knowledge of editing so that it should have sense and convey the information. Whatever is conveyed should be managed in a particular format and not just paragraphs and sentences.
- The main role of transcriptionist is to be very accurate and confirmed about the transcription provided. The transcriptionist hence needs to be attentive and focused on his goal so that he does not make any mistake. While writing he should always use breaks and revises it before the final drafting.
- The work of a transcriptionist is very delicate as it provides you with the information of the doctor. Any patient fully relies on the doctor and any wrong information would make the treatment useless and dangerous. So the transcriptionist should aim at having full attention on the work and make it coordinated well.
- One should be updated by the latest medicines and terminologies in that field so that it would help in dictation and to avoid any mistake in the text prepared thereby.
- Should ensure that the transcript is in proper format with correct spellings and abbreviations. Also should ensure the liquidity of the language used, that is should be properly drafted.
- Beside the several roles of the transcriptionist, there are responsibilities which a transcriptionist needs to fulfill.
- Should be fully focused as any wrong or incorrect information can lead to various problems in a patient’s life, as this diagnosis is further used for treatment and even a wrong word may be the cause of a big problem.
- Should not be self centered but help out others to write a text well if there is any problem persisting so that others may also write it well without any mistake.
- If a problem comes up or something goes wrong the transcriptionist should be frank enough to bring it to the notice of the doctor instead of writing it in a wrong way.
- Should take every transcript seriously as part of learning process and generate perfect results from every hearing as in this work the learning process never stops and one should be very curious to learn to improve day by day.
- Hence a medical transcriptionist not only does a job but has lot more to do in order to fulfill his responsibilities. His job is full of risks as a small mistake can create a big problem so it is his duty to be attentive, focused and correct in his approach.
